Field Trips Fridays
Our Field Trip Friday program helps students learn life skills through hands-on activities, tours, and events.
Space in the Field Trip Friday program is extremely limited, so admission will be granted only with prior approval. Preference goes to prior students. If you are interested, please reach out to info.brancheshs@gmail.com.
Some of the skills that our students will gain include:
Learning how to use and getting very comfortable with an ORCA card and public transportation
Navigating the world using maps, GPS, stop lights, and traffic signs
Getting familiar with the Kitsap Regional Library system
Using money (budgeting what they have, receiving change, and talking with employees of different shops)
Learning safety information and skills relating to all of the different locations we may visit (in the past, this has included Seattle, downtown areas of various towns, museums, beaches, boats, and more)
How to work with and communicate effectively and kindly with their peers, teachers, and other members of their community
Understanding community organizations from Fishline and the Humane Society to police departments and wastewater treatment
Field trip specific skills taught by experts (for example, basic car maintenance with a mechanic, metal casting with a professional blacksmith, or learning bird language with a survival expert)
Confidence and comfort with the world around them, how to engage with it, and where they want to fit into it
